LCBA Canada Challenge Pitch Session 2: Renewable Shipping Fuels

The maritime sector accounts for 8.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in Canada and over 1 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent worldwide, representing close to 1.2% of Canada’s annual emissions, and 3% of total annual global emissions. Global technology trends such as decentralization, digitization, electrification, and the implementation of sustainable and circular economy practices, are accelerating opportunities for sustainable economic growth in this sector.

The Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate (VMCC) is seeking end-to-end low-carbon intensity alternative or renewable fuels. This Challenge has attracted some innovative circular economy solutions that might help accelerate the transition to a zero emissions maritime shipping industry.
