Circularity for the planet

To protect biodiversity and fight climate change, the circular economy provides an economically viable and socially sustainable alternative to our current unsustainable consumption and production patterns.

On September 14, participate in “Day 2 Look Ahead” and “The Circle of Life: The Circular Economy for Climate and Biodiversity” to discover why circularity is a key solution for addressing the climate and biodiversity crises – and how you can get involved.

The United Nations Environment Programme’s Executive Director Inger Andersen will provide the Day 2 Opening Keynote on why now is a pivotal moment for global economies, societies, and the planet. Carolina Schmidt, Chile’s Minister of Environment, Steven van Weyenberg, The Netherland’s Minister of Environment and Sitra’s President Jyrki Katainen will then discuss the importance of the circular economy as a key solution to our current challenges. Next, Sir Partha Dasgupta, Frank Ramsey Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Cambridge, will be interviewed by The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra’s Communications Director Elina Ravantti on a leading edge topic: the Circular Economy and the Economics of Biodiversity.

Two panels will follow, with Petri Alava, CEO of fashion and textile technology company Infinited Fiber, joining Olivia Markham, Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Blackrock, and Kathleen McLaughlin, Walmart’s Executive VP and Chief Sustainability Officer, on a Business Panel to discuss circular businesses for climate and biodiversity; and Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and Natan Obed, President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami joining a Policy Panel moderated by the Christine Hogan, Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change Canada on the circular economy as a tool in policy-making and international negotiations, including the upcoming climate and biodiversity Conferences of the Parties (COP 26 and 15).
